It is strongly recommended that you make your bookings as early as possible as Sardinia is a very popular tourist destination during the summer months.
How to Get There:

From Stansted there are two flights every day to Alghero. Click on the following link to make a booking or to check availability — ryanair.com
Easyjet fly from London (Luton) to Cagliari-Elmas and from London (Gatwick) to Olbia, on the Emerald Coast (Costa Smeralda) — easyjet.com
British Airways fly from London (Gatwick) to Cagliari-Elmas on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays — ba.com
If you wish to rent a car do so from the recommended rental provider that the airline suggests as a discount usually is offered.

You can travel to Carloforte from either Alghero or Cagliari by either bus (l'autobus) or train (il treno). Sardinia has a few major train lines, and some private, narrow-gauge trains. Whilst the trains are slow in Sardinia they afford a great view of the beauiful countryside.
If you fly to Cagliari-Elmas airport, you can reach the city of Cagliari by an ARST bus. In Cagliari you can catch a Ferrovie Meridionali Sarde bus to Calasetta or Portovesme, the two ferry terminals for San Pietro. The bus trip takes 2-3 hours whilst the ferry crossing takes about 30/40 minutes, with regular departures, day and night.
